Our vision is 'an environment richer in wildlife for everyone' and we're the largest UK charity exclusively dedicated to conserving all our habitats and species, with a membership of more than 670,000 people including 108,000 junior members. We campaign for the protection of wildlife and invest in the future by helping people of all ages to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of wildlife. Collectively, we also manage more than 2,200 nature reserves spanning over 80,000 hectares. The Wildlife Trusts also lobby for better protection of the UK's natural heritage and are dedicated to protecting wildlife for the future.
Website: www.butterfly-conservation.org
Butterfly Conservation's purpose is to secure a lasting future for all native butterflies, moths and their habitats within the UK. The ultimate goal is to help restore a balanced countryside with butterflies and other wildlife restored to the profusion that they, and we, once enjoyed. Specific objectives are to halt the decline of UK butterflies and moths, and improve the status of all threatened species. Improve the extent and suitability of key habitats for butterflies and moths (such as broad-leaved woodland, chalk and limestone grassland), and also the quality of the countryside as a whole. Encourage public involvement in conservation, for example by creating butterfly-friendly habitats in parks and gardens, and participation in local and national projects. Collaborate with other voluntary and statutory groups to achieve our goals. Create opportunities for Butterfly Conservation volunteers to organise and participate in national, and local conservation programmes, including reserve management.

The BDS is actively involved in monitoring populations and in conservation. 2. Education - BDS supplies information to schools and students and has produced an education pack for 7-11 year olds. 3. Research - the Society actively supports research into the ecology, biology and behaviour of dragonflies and offers small grants for projects.

Organisation Cetacea (ORCA) promotes the conservation of the marine environment through research, partnership and education and provides a forum for the enjoyment of whales, dolphins, seabirds and other marine life. Founded in August 2000, ORCA seeks to provide a forum for raising interest and participation in conservation research by creating a network that is accessible to all interest groups, and provides a focus for enjoying and learning about cetaceans. To realise these aims, ORCA collects information on whales, dolphins and other wildlife living in European waters, encourages ORCA members to become actively involved in whale and dolphin observation, and works to raise public awareness of the threats that marine animals face.
